From Phoenix, AZ
Most common route

- Depending on your location in Phoenix, take either Hwy 85, Hwy 238 or I-8 to Gila Bend
- Take AZ-85 S from Gila Bend to Lukeville, AZ
- Cross the Border at Lukeville into Sonoyta, MX
- Continue on Mexico 8 to Puerto Peñasco
From Tucson, AZ
Southern Arizona route
- ~220 mi
- ~4 hrs
- Tucson → AZ-86 W to AZ-85, turn left at Why, AZ
- AZ-85 S from Why, AZ → Lukeville, AZ
- Cross border at Lukeville → Sonoyta, MX
- Mexico 8 → Puerto Peñasco
Directions to Resort
Once inside Puerto Peñasco
- ~65 mi
- ~ 1 hr 30min
- Approaching town → stay right of the Overpass
- Roundabout → 1st exit (right), follow SON 3
- After RR tracks → Left onto Blvd Costa Diamante
- Roundabout → 2nd exit, stay on Blvd Costa Diamante
- Right onto Blvd Paseo de la Duna
- Turn left at Sonoran Spa / Sonoran Sea sign

Plan your crossing time accordingly-do not arrive after 8:00 PM.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Valid US Passport or Passport Card
Ensure your passport is not expired before you travel. Both directions require valid ID.
MEXICAN AUTO INSURANCE
Required for driving in Mexico
Available at vendors on the US highway before crossing, or arrange with your own insurer ahead of time.
Travel Tips
No personal checks accepted anywhere in Mexico - bring cash (USD or pesos) or a debit/credit card.
Mexican auto insurance must be purchased separately - your US policy does not cover you south of the border.
Fuel up on the US side before crossing-gas stations exist in Puerto Peñasco but prices vary.
Allow extra time at the border crossing, especially on Friday afternoon and Sunday return - wait times can vary
